00 Welcome to episode 10 of the well-versed woman podcast. I'm Renee teller here with my cohost, Theresa Morgan. We're two perfectly imperfect women who have a heart to share our experiences with women like you. What we've experienced in our life is the love of God. And we know if you stay tuned, especially today, we know what we're about to share. We'll fill your life with more love and peace than you thought possible. But how do we always start? We must start by plugging into the power source, plugging into our creator. And we do that by being still and taking 20 seconds to open our hearts, our minds, and our ears to listen to what God would have to say. That's especially important today, as we talk about the spirit of God and what that means. So when you close your eyes this morning for these 20 seconds, I'd like you to ask God's Holy spirit, to fill your heart, your mind, and open your ears to what we have to share today. It's really exciting. And you're going to want to listen. So are you ready? Let's take that 20 seconds right now.

46 [inaudible]

47 That's it? That was 20 seconds. Now I also asked you to stop right now for just a minute and hit that subscribe button because we are in episode 10 and we have been

00 Building on this relationship that we talk about with God episode after episode, you know, in the first episode we talked about how can we have a relationship with God? How can we be friends with God? And we talked in number two about needing faith and faith is that thing you can't see. So that becomes difficult. We go on to talk about preparing our hearts. We talk about needing to make a decision to actually choose a relationship with this friend, this relationship with God, just like we choose any other friend in our life. We've talked about how to pray to God, how we can communicate with him, how God is full of grace and truth. And in last week, Theresa, what was our big point in episode nine?

54 That's right Renee, last week we talked about that. God is a three part being, he is father and he has a son, Jesus, and the spirit of Jesus is called the Holy spirit. So we talked about this triune God that the Bible depicts and explains in quite a lot of detail. It's so exciting to me, that episode after episode, we get to explore the beauty of this Tribune. God,

22 And you know, it's funny Teresa, because we are not just physical beings as well. We are made in his image. So what does that mean?

31 That is right. The Bible talks about that. God is spirit. And in Genesis, the Bible says that we are made in the image of God. So the truest part of every human being is the spirit of the human being. As a matter of fact, the Bible teaches just so simply so eloquently that human beings are a three part being. If we look over in first Thessalonians chapter five, verse 23, the Bible teaches now make the God of peace himself. Thank defy. You completely in may, your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. So you can see that we are a spirit. We live in a body, this house that we navigate the world in, and we have a mind, which is our Harwell, our emotions, our thought life. That is who a human being is

30 That Teresa and it's so commonplace. I think everybody listening knows that. In fact, it was so strong in my heart 20 years ago that I opened a wellness center named Trillium. Now, if you're not from the Northeast, the Trillium is a wild flower. In fact, it's an endangered species, which is really cool. And we opened that center because we knew that nobody could, well, nobody could be healthy. Nobody could be fit without bringing together all three parts of our, of our being. I was going to say our humanness, but it goes beyond our humanness, our beyond our physicality body mind spirit. So it's very clear when we stop and think about it, that we are three as well, Theresa and we were created in his image. Again, that goes back to me thinking, how can I trust this Bible? Well, again, I don't think anybody doesn't understand that we are three components to our humanness and it says it in the Bible. So the Bible keeps getting proven over and over again. That's so great. So back to this idea of hiring a helper, hiring the Holy spirit, the Holy spirit, which has God, but how do we know that we get the Holy spirit only when we believe and put our faith in Jesus.

06 Renee. That is such a great question. Uh, I love the analogy of hiring someone because the truth of the matter is that the Holy spirit can't be hired without receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and savior. They are. If you will a package deal, there is a beautiful scripture and we can all turn there. It's in the book of John chapter seven, verses 37 to 39. So the Bible teaches, this is Jesus teaching in the Bible in the scripture, says this on the last day, that great. The day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out saying, if anyone thirst, let him come to me and drink. He who believes in me as the scripture has said out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. But this Jesus spoke concerning the spirit whom those believing in him, believing in Jesus would receive for the Holy spirit was not yet given because Jesus was not yet glorified. So the Holy spirit here is teaching. So Jesus was teaching here that when he would shed his blood, Hey, the price for sin die on that cross bear be buried and resurrect up. When that would happen, that's called Jesus being glorified. When that happens, the Holy spirit, his spirit was given into the earth. And as the scripture says, let's not miss this, those believing in him, right? When we put our faith in Jesus, we receive the Holy spirit

45 Only makes sense, Theresa, to say that it's a package deal because they are one in the same. It is God, our father, God, the son, Jesus, and God, the Holy spirit. So how could you separate them? Absolutely. You have to understand that to receive the spirit is receiving the spirit of Jesus. So you have to believe Jesus, I that's awesome. And again, just like we just said, the scripture, the word of God,

18 That is exactly right. And that's the beautiful thing about the Bible. It's the beautiful thing. God left us after Jesus walked the earth and shed his precious blood and resurrected back up to the father. And the Bible says that Jesus Christ is sitting at the right hand of the father, making intercession for us. When that happened, God left us the Holy spirit and the scriptures so that we would not be pulled to and from so that we would stay in truth so that we would not be deceived. So we have the Holy spirit, we have the word of God and that keeps us centered. Yeah.

56 So there's this idea of knowing Jesus and accepting who he was and you know what he's all about. And that may be difficult for in the, in the beginning. I knew it was for me. I had to come to this point in my life, Teresa, where life had gotten so overwhelming and so difficult that I threw my hands up and said, I surrender. And even though I don't understand this whole concept, I'm going to throw in a little bit of faith and trust that this is my only, that this is my answer because it was my only hope. And I think so many of us get to that place and others don't, but unfortunately, or fortunately, I should say, my life had gotten to that place where I said, I cannot go on alone. I am into deep I'm over my head. And I can't in my intellect. Go forward anymore. I need a helper. I need somebody to come alongside me. And I, uh, brings me honestly to tears. When I think about how low I had gone and, uh, how awesome it was when I felt that help her come alongside me and lift me up and carry me.

22 Absolutely. And like we say, that is part of his job description. He's the lifter of our heads. He is, uh, really our helper. He teaches us all things. He brings to us the truth that we need to separate deceptions and lies from the straight path that he wants us to walk on. And there is nothing like the lift of the Holy spirit. I believe that human beings were never meant to exist without his help. Unfortunately, Renee sin entered the earth and with it, they had spiritual death. But the good news is that Jesus, his sacrifice, he paid the penalty for sin so that we could be reunited to God, Renee.

10 Yes. And it sounds so complicated at the beginning, but I think right now I'm feeling a strong need tree SSA to let people know what it takes, how simple it could be. If you're aware I was. And I can't even think how many years ago now probably probably 25, everyone where I was in this despair. And I think today, Theresa, so many of us have reason to be overwhelmed and despair in the world that we're living in. If that's where you are right now, let's walk through the steps Theresa. And if it's not where you are, but you want to walk through these steps. That's okay too. Let's explain the steps that I went through all those years ago to receive this helper, to get this helper into my, Oh, it's just so joyous to me to get this helper with me every day in every cell of my body, how do we hire this? Holy spirit, Theresa? Absolutely.

19 You know, Renee, you, you spoke about people in despair and boy, especially the world in which we're living in today. There's so much confusion. There's there is so much chaos if you will going on in the world. So what a beautiful thing, the gospel of Jesus Christ is good news. And that's really the first step in receiving Christ into your heart as Lord and savior. The first step is just that hearing and believing the gospel. The good news of Jesus Christ in the Bible teaches in Romans chapter three, verse 23, that all are sinners and have fallen short of the glory of God in the glory of God and falling short means none of us can be perfect enough to live up to God's Holy and righteous, more ethical standard because remember, God, it, yes is full of grace and mercy, but he's also just in Holly.

15 So Roman six chapter six verse 23 goes on. Texts found about the love of God and what he did. He knew no human being could satisfy the perfection of God's holiness in his moral standards. So what did he do? Renee? He came down in the person of Jesus Christ. He satisfied the requirements of God. So let's pick up in Romans chapter six, verse 23. It says the wages of sin, the wages of the sin committed by every individual on earth is death, spiritual and separation from God. And here's the love, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord. So God made a way and gave humanity a gift. When he gave his son, he has, I said, no human being can live a perfectly sinless life to satisfy the Holy requirements of God, but Jesus King Renee. And did that for the Bible, says in first John chapter two, verse two, and he himself, Jesus Christ is the propitiation for our sins and not for ours only, but also for the whole world. So that's such a beautiful thing of what is death accomplished. Propitiation is a big word, but it means it's sad. It's the satisfaction or appeasement. So Jesus satisfied the Holy requirement of God. And that's why those who put their faith in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life is John chapter three, verse 16. So beautifully says,

57 So Jesus was the bridge. Jesus was the connecting piece between us and God because a, a finite being with a finite mind, which is us, humans cannot be reconciled to this infinite, all perfection, God. Right. Theresa

19 Right Renee. That that's exactly right. So the first step is hearing and believing the gospel. It's it's hearing that. Oh my gosh. Yes, I am a sinner and yes, I need a savior.

33 Even when it didn't all make sense to me back in that 25 years ago, I threw in some faith and said, okay, I, I knew that I was a sinner. I knew that I had fallen short. That was clear. That was clear. And that I needed, I needed a say I needed, I needed someone to come rescue me to come save me. That's what Jesus is. He's our rescuer. He is going to save us from those depths of despair. But it's just, and then the Holy spirit is the, is the person in God that stays with us physically and our body like inside of us, he lives in us. Right? Theresa

22 Is exactly correct. And you know, one of my most favorite scriptures, I probably say that a lot because in the book of Hebrews chapter 13, most scholars believe Paul wrote this book. So we'll attribute it to Paul. The Bible says in chapter 13 and verse five for he himself has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you. Hmm. Let's listen to that again for he himself has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you. Now the Bible, uh, you know, initially was written in Greek and in the Greek, this says, I will never, I will not. I will not never, not now. Not ever, not in any circumstance. Will I ever leave you so to understand that when we put our faith in Jesus Christ, we get his spirit who is indwelling in us, who will never leave us, never forsake us has our best interest in heart, always leads and guides us into perfect truth. That sets us free continually that keeps us away from mental gymnastics and helps us get through challenges and despairs and brings joy even to a better place in life. It is life giving Renee.

55 Can you imagine hiring someone who would never, ever leave? You was always there to help the minute you, you had an issue. There is no better hire ladies and gentlemen than the Holy spirit. I mean, everything you ever dreamed of in a helper,

17 Right? Theresa. Yeah. That's, that's so incredibly correct. And you and I could be here for a day sharing our beautiful testimonies in our stories of how he proves himself over and over and over again. You know, I'm thinking in the book of Ephesians Paul prays that we may come to know Renee, the height and the depth and the width and the breadth of his love in the amplified Bible says, may we come to know it in tangible ways in that's really what it means to walk with God is that he shows up in tangible ways, circumstance after circumstance. And really every breath we take is in him and with him, he's forming as he never leaves us. He is the best helper that we could ever have in life. The one scripture that really, um, when I was a young Christian that brought this home to me was again, in the book of John, John chapter one verse 12, it says he has many is receive him.

29 Jesus is Lord and savior to them. He gave the right to become children of God. So it's, it's not so much that, okay, Jesus died, shed his blood for the whole world. We're all going to God. That's not the truth. The truth of the matter is when one hears the gospel puts their faith in the gospel trust in Jesus Christ. Read in, receives him as Lord and savior. That's when they are, they become a child of God. That's when the Holy spirit descends within their spirit to never leave them or forsake them. And that's what the Bible calls both being born again. Yeah.

13 Well, it goes back to the episode where we talked about love and love is a choice that we have to choose this. So when you say it's just not everyone it's to those who choose him to as many as received him, who've made the decision that that's the way they want to go, that they want to be with him and follow

38 That's. Absolutely correct. And God is so good. He's so good that he even helps us. You know, Renee, you've talked about in your despair and you, you, you know, you're put in a little bit of faith in this God that the Bible talks about. Um, and of course the Bible says faith has a mustard seed can move a mountain. But you know, the truth of the matter is that the Bible teaches that even the faith is a gift of God. So the Holy spirit is always hovering around us, helping us to believe and to receive him, you know, as a, you know, many might be saying, okay, great. I, I believe I, I believe that Jesus is the son of God that he walked the earth. And I hear Theresa, hear you say that I receive them, but how do I receive them is a gift going to show up at my door, Renee.

34 Exactly, exactly. So we have to choose. And how do we go about choosing Tracy?

42 So we can, we can look in Romans chapter 10 and we can listen to the apostle Paul. He says in verse nine and 10, that if you confess with your mouth, the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart, that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved for what the heart one believes unto righteousness, meaning right. Standing with God and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. And this is really very personal for me because when I came into a relationship with Jesus Christ, by inviting him into my heart, this is exactly what my very, very good friends in spiritual mom, if you will, Joyce, Joyce came and shared the gospel. And then basically she ran it. She just looked at me. So sweetly over a cup of coffee and said, would you like to invite Jesus Christ into your heart to be Lord and savior? And I was so excited that day and Renee, it was just a simple prayer, Romans chapter 10, lays Jesus. I believe you died for my sins. I invite you into my heart to be Lord and savior. And I thank you for that. Forgive me of my sins. And thank you for your sacrifice on the cross, in the name of Jesus simple.

00 Yeah. I love that. It says four with the heart, one believes. And what do we pray for 20 seconds that, that God fills our heart and our mind. So this idea, and I think we talked back in the episodes, Theresa about preparing the soil of our heart and for me, how I had to work on my heart and my mind, and it's all right here. So it's not anything that happened overnight. It was a constant journey, a constant working the overnight was the minute that I said, I hire you. You're my guy that happens in a nanosecond, as you say, Theresa. But then the process, the process begins where we continue to grow this relationship that we've been talking about. This relationship with God, then grows just like our friendship has.

04 That is so very true. So when a person believes in the gospel, you know, they're made brand new in their spirit. Second Corinthians chapter five verse 17 teaches. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is the new creation. All things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. So when we invite Jesus Christ into our hearts, the Holy spirit comes into our spirits to live inside of us. We're made brand new in our spirits, but then the Bible teaches about working out our salvation with fear and trembling, knowing that it has got all the while at work in us, willing to do and to choose according to his good pleasure. And that's found in Philippians chapter two, verse 13. So it's a process growing ourselves nation in our maturity that begins in our spirit. Then we grow it through ourselves, through our mind, our will and our emotions. And in the book of Romans again, Paul teachers in chapter 12, that the Bible says in a second first do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. So what we want to stick to on this episode is that your spirit is, is brand new and born again. But then what has happened inside begins to transform your life through your soul. Yeah. Your soul then begins to line up.

46 It sounds like, you know, we've gone through 10 episodes, which is just amazing. Anyway, but this piece of the Holy spirit, the third person of the Godhead is the glue that brings together everything we talked about in the 10 episodes that once we now have a spirit of God living in us, all those other things come together and become easier. Just like when you hire a helper, they're there to make things easier to have things make sense. So when you're still for those 20 seconds and hopefully on your own, you're growing it to be more quiet, still time in your day, you're asking Jesus, Jesus, his spirit to be there with you every step, every single day, you know, it reminds me of those of you in the marketing field. You know, they say, until people know like, and trust you business, can't be done. Success can't happen until we know who Jesus says, believe like him, believe him and trust him. The other pieces don't fall in place. We need the spirit of God living in us to have this whole journey make sense and be sustainable. And I like to say easy tree SOPs.

22 True. So true Renee, you know, we've mentioned Jeremiah 29, before that he has the plans and purposes for our life and he helps bring them to pass. You know, our steps are ordered of him who doesn't want to be in the perfect will of God. I know that when I'm flowing in his perfect, well, Oh, it brings life to every particle of my being. There's a satisfaction that comes from being in the perfect will of God. You know what it's like? Absolutely. It's like that fish of water that we, that we talk about once we're put back into the tank and we're swimming in and receiving the oxygen from the water, um, from the waters of life, boy, we are on our way to throw out.

11 No, we should talk more about that goldfish next week.

15 Well, yeah,

16 The next week until then our savor at foundational scripture of our podcast today,
