What are the benefits of drinking water? Water is an essential tool on the journey to good health. You may have heard it before, but we all need occasional reminders of this truth.

Our bodies are made up of over 70% water. If you are not flushing the toxins out of your system, you will probably be experiencing a lack of energy or chronic fatigue. These symptoms are significantly related to dehydration. If you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated! The mechanism that signals your brain about thirst is dehydration itself.

1. Drink enough

The general rule is to ensure a daily intake of half your bodyweight in ounces of water. If you weigh 200 pounds, you need to drink half of that in ounces, so 100 ounces of water per day. The old adage about drinking six to eight glasses a day is a guideline that seems to defy logic since we are all different shapes and sizes. If you double eight 8-ounce glasses, which is 64 ounces of water times two. Intuitively, it makes sense that this amount of water is for a person who weighs 128 pounds. Naturally then, bigger people need more water to function.

The best thing you can do for your health is to flush your system daily, with enough water to support your bodyweight. I learned this twenty years ago when my husband and I decided to increase our daily water intake. In three months we both lost 15 pounds, simply by flushing toxins from our bodies.

2. Drink clean water

Why should you buy water when it is freely available on demand? Unfortunately, water that comes from a faucet is not okay for us thanks to the chlorine cities use for purification. Chlorine is harmful to our bodies, and that alone is a good reason not to drink tap water.

So what do we drink? Firstly, distilled water is recommended. Distillation, which is achieved through a process of reverse osmosis, cleanses normal water from lakes and oceans. 3. No drinking during meals

Simply put, if you are drinking liquid while you eat, the food is not broken down properly. I know most of us drink while eating, but drinking during meals prevents digestive enzymes from breaking down the food. This is why people are battling indigestion, not receiving all the nutrients bodies glean from good food. The rule of thumb is to stop drinking thirty minutes before you eat.

Remember, drinking half your body weight in ounces applies only to water – not coffee, soda, bubbly water or any other beverages. Stick with still, clean water and you will quickly see the difference it makes to your health.
